Press Release (band is not responsible for the poor english below :
my translation)
After some very well received gigs in the Belgian and Dutch club-circuit, a third
place at the Jack Daniel's European Rock Prize in Athens (Sept. '98), 2 concerts
at Le Botanique in Brussels (café-theatre and Orangerie), a third place
at Marktrock Podium '99, a nomination for the Golden CJP-award '99 and a place
in the finals of the European Newcomer Bands Festival Emergenza (AB Brussels,
19 june 1999), now there's the debut single of Q.
The band from the province of Antwerp spent the month March in the studio with
producer Reinert D'Haeen. The result = "Jelly" a single-cd with whirling,
rocksong with some wit. Through Output, the rocklabel of the Stuttgart-based label
CODE-music, this single will also be distributed in Germany. Q has also discovered
the luxury of the internet and is offering this cd for sale at http://www.codemusic.org.
Live, Q is a spectacle that reminds both of Black Crowes, Paul Weller, Pixies
and K's Choice.
The group will be playing a number of gigs in Germany in june, will spend the
summer going to the festivals (Suikerrock, Marktrock, Cultuurmarkt), and will
go to Germany, Spain and Holland in the Autumn.
My Opinion This group sure seems to put on a good live show that convinces talent-contest-jury's
(European Rock Prize, Marktrock Podium, Emergenza) : the live-track on the cd
("Things To Do") is also the one that convinces me the most of the potentiality
of this band.
The track "Jelly" in it's two mixes (one loud and uncompromising), the
other softer & with the synth more to the foreground lacks some "je-ne-sais-quoi"
to blow out my mind. Perhaps a combination of the two versions would've done the
trick ??
... To be continued, without a doubt ...
